Title: "Does a Bear Box in the Woods?" Location: Scioto Trails State
Park, near Chillicothe, Ohio, Ross County. Placed 3-22-03 by
Salamander.*** Please bring pen and stamppad. Driving directions: US-
23 south from Chillicothe, then east onto SR-372 (the park
entrance).Difficulty: Moderate climb up slope. CLUES: Find the "Ross
Family Shelter" sign. Standing in front of the sign, take a reading
of 188 degrees. Go to the taller of the 2 pine trees which are at
this heading. Standing at the north side of the pine tree, take a
reading of 112 degrees. Proceed up the slope at that heading until
you reach a large 3-trunked tree which has moss growing up on the
base of the trunk.Stand at the east/northeast side of this tree and
take a reading of 67 degrees. There is another tree not too far away
at that heading. The box is hidden between the base of that tree and
a fallen log resting against it, under some leaves and sticks.

Salamander. CLUES: Go to the multi-use campground area (First left
turn from the entrance road off Marietta Rd.).Find the trailhead sign
which marks the Sugarloaf Mtn., Shawnee Ridge, & Mt. Ives trails.
Standing in front of the sign,take a reading of 337 degrees and go 22
paces to a spot in front of a small wooden bench. From here, take 11
paces at 285 degrees. Stop. Down the slope in front of you, and
slightly to the right, you should see a large rock. Go to that rock.
Standing at its south side, take a reading of 52 degrees. Go 6 paces
at that heading to an uprooted and fallen tree. Follow along the
length of the tree to its N/NW end. The box is wedged against the
base of a smaller tree which is growing up between a fork in the end
of the fallen tree.
